Knockdown texturing is the way to beatify existing concrete surfaces around high liability areas such as pool decks. This Super-Krete coating System is not only decorative- it creates a cooler walking surface, and exceeds the ASTM co-efficient of friction requirements, meaning that the surface texture created by this system exceeds typical skid-resistance standards. However, as always, caution should still be taken around wet areas. This system has also passed ICBO testing requirements for a Class “A” fore rating.

SURFACE PREPARATION

All existing concrete surfaces must be structurally sound, solid and completely clean. Remove all sealers, curing compounds, curing agents, dust, dirt oil and other contaminants that may act as a bond-breaker. 

1.      New concrete must be allowed to cure for 28 days

RESURFACING AND APPLICATION OF POOL TEXTURE

New Concrete (After 28 days):

Application of Super-Krete Bond-Kote is not always necessary when applying the Knock-Down Texture System over NEW CONCRETE. If the concrete surface is new, structurally sound and has been treated with Super-Krete Pene-Krete, Super-Krete Pool Texture can be applied directly over concrete. Bond-Kote can first be used to resurface concrete if it is pitted or in need of repair. Bond-Kote is also used to resurface concrete that has been treated with the Super-Krete Crack Treatment System to create the perfect canvas and appearance of new concrete prior to spraying Pool Texture.

Existing Concrete:

In cases where Bond-Kote is needed as a concrete overlay, Dampen the surface, not allowing water to puddle. Prepare a Bond-Kote mixture by adding desired amount of water to one bag and mix thoroughly with a jiffy mixer to achieve a flowable consistency. The actual amount of water needed will vary depending on outside factors such as weather conditions.  Warmer temperatures may require more water.

Mist the entire surface with the water, not allowing to puddle.

Then pour the Bond-Kote mixture onto the surface and apply Bond-Kote at a rate of 300 square feet per bag with a squeegee. Two coats of this application are always required. Be sure to brush out all excess material out of the expansion joints and honor them to their original width and depth.

Mix four to five quarts of water per bag of Pool Texture S-9400. Pour the mixture into a hopper gun and spray Pool Texture using low pressure onto the surface.

Wearing spiked shoes, walk out onto the textured area, and knock down the material with a pool trowel for desired finish. Typical applications of Pool Texture will cover 125-175 square feet per bag. The actual coverage will vary depending on how much material is used from the hopper during the application, and the desired texture results.

Allow the knocked-down finish to completely dry. Then, scrape and sweep off the debris from the surface.

Over the cleaned surface, apply two coats of Ure-Kote S-11000 with a roller at a rate of 125 square feet per gallon. 20 colors of Ure-Kote and unlimited Color Stain choices are available for you to choose from, see Super-Krete Color Palette. Integral Color may also be used.

After Ure-Kote has been allowed to dry, a sealer is required.

SEALING

Apply a minimum of two coats of the Super-Krete Sealer of Choice. Refer to the section entitled “Selecting the Right Sealer” for application instruction.
